The frame design
The 601 – the light-weight frame derived of our 901 frame – is now available in its second evolutionary stage as the MK2. By using an all new alloy, reducing certain tube diameters, updating from IS 2000 to Postmount and by changing from an 1.5” True Integration headset to a Tapered Full Integrated headset we were able to reduce an identical build by over 300g.
The new long travel geometry provides both improved climbing and descending characteristics. Not only on fast DH trails but also on technical and steep trails the descending characteristics have been improved.
The rear travel is 190mm. The upper shock mount is connected with the frame and adjustable. This adjustment allows fine tuning of the geometry. A custom spline allows a 100% secure connection which is easily adjusted –even on-trail - within seconds with the one bolt.
The frame
For maximum stiffness and durability every single tube is multiply butted and the overall frame construction consistently adheres to oversize principles.
The head tube is, just like our Liteville 301 from MK8 onwards, a tapered head tube with fully integrated bearings, but in a slightly beefed up guise. The headset allows the use of all available 1 1/8th and tapered steerer tube forks. The required reduction shim is included.
If you are familiar with Liteville and our frames you will know: naturally, the seat stays and chain stays are also butted differently on the left and right of the 601 to accommodate for the different loads resulting from the chain pull and breaking forces. The bottom bracket area, in which we all know that bottom bracket, main pivot, front derailleur, rear tire, ISCG tab, chain guide (optional) and the rear gear cable have to all work in harmony with each other, yet are cramped in a confined space, was again especially important for us in order to use the available space effectively and yet provide sufficient clearance for the cranks while providing high rear frame stiffness and large tyre clearance. All this being reason for using the same frame components here as found on the 301.
Construction type
Diamond frame in extreme-oversize design with 4-bar linkage and using multiply butted tubing. All 601 frames use our TCL (TunedChainstayLength) which means as the frame grows in length, so does the chainstay. Frame size XS uses super short 415mm chain stays for a 24” rear wheel. Like this, even smaller riders will be able to have the same enjoyable riding experience as every one else.
Sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL
Material
Custom alloy grade using an extensive multiple step heat treatment process with Rockwell hardness and Eddy-Current (IACS) testing.
Surface
Shotpeened for best material strength and fatigue properties. Anodized with laser logo.
Raceblack anodised, works finish or about 160 RAL colors with 650 color variations.
Or did you want it a little more individual? You can always
color anodise or hand polish your frame.
Fine tuning the geometry
The simple adjustability of the shock mount allows fine tuning of the frame geometry. This fine tunes the bottom bracket height and seat tube – and head tube angles (see animation).
The headset
Here we use our new – the first and currently only one of such construction available – Fully integrated “Syntace VarioSpin tapered” headset.
This headset allows an additional +/- 1.5° head angle adjustment, independently of the bottom bracket height.
For the first time, this allows very special geometries such as a high bottom bracket in combination with a slack head angle, or a low bottom bracket in combination with a steep head angle.
TIP: For consistency, bikes in this category should be equipped with tapered steerer forks!
But, should you for some reason not want to use a non-tapered steerer in your 601, not to worry. Just purchase the separately available reduction kit for 1 1/8th steerers.
The suspension system
The Liteville 601 displays, just like found on our proven 901, separated braking forces, so that you are still able to brake on rough root-scattered or rocky outcrops yet retain best traction.
Best pedalling efficiency and full all-day-mtb-tour capability as well as bump sensitivity was further optimised by using needle bearings in the shock mounts. And we are extremely happy with the attained result.
Chainguide
We believe a Liteville 601 should be run with a chainguide, as it should be done with a bike of this category. We highly recommend the Syntace SCS chainguide system which was developed especially for Liteville. No other chainguide is so lightweight, simple to assemble, simple to maintain and so strong.
Chainstays
Practically everyone knows it, but yet barely any frame builder actually does it. Chainstay lengths that get longer with growing frame size are mandatory! This modification is (especially for a small manufacturer like Liteville) quite complex and costly, but never the less, we have decided to take this path with the 601 also because not only the climbing ability but near to every riding situation is enhanced by Liteville’s TCL (TunedChainstayLength).
Pedal jack
Responsible for pedal jack is the placement of the 4 pivots and the subsequent elongation of the chain when the frame passes through its travel. It is important that there is no pedal jack, regardless of the selected gear. We eliminated any noticeable pedal jack by precise placement of the pivots, which provides absolute minimal chain growth.
Bearings
For all pivots we use specific loading optimized bearings with job-specific construction. All bearings are in non-rusting, stainless bearings.
Dropouts
Just like it should be in a bike of this category: only with thru-axle!
Of course we don’t just use any old axle…We employ the
Syntace X-12 thru-axle system. This cleverly designed system does not only shine with its elegance, but allows something that has never before been possible on any other rear thru-axle system: The correction of rear wheel toe and camber. On the side, we also achieve a higher stiffness at the same weight of weight weenie QR’s. Last, but not least, in comparison to all other rear axle systems, this rear axle system is even easier to operate than conventional QR skewers.
Derailleur hanger
For perfect precise shifting function, the hanger has been designed in such a way, that despite being replaceable, it is significantly stiffer than conventional exchangeable derailleur hangers. The clue: the derailleur hanger will not bend when overloaded, instead, the derailleur hanger screw acts as the weakest link. When over-loaded, only the weakest link breaks. This bolt can easily be replaced if it ever does happen to break. The best bit: there is always a spare bolt in the bottom of your frame waiting for you to use.
Cable routing
We know from our own experiences how important a cable routing is that is protected from grit and dirt and uses as little bends as possible with the largest possible radii. Especially in bad weather applications, the human application forces required for shifting on many bikes are increased drastically after a few metres of riding, and often a precise shifting function is no longer given. This is why we have created our integrated and patented NCP (Neutral Centre Path) cable routing. NCP stands for non-interrupted cable routing that goes along the down tube, passes through the seat tube, directly through the pivot point of the rear triangle main pivot, eliminating elongation of the housing as the wheel passes through its travel, and through the right hand chain stay directly to the rear derailleur. This provides a constant precise shifting function even in day-to-day bad weather riding with the longest possible cable service intervals.
Travel
The 601 has approx. 190mm travel and uses a eye-to-eye shock length of 241mm. Forks of a min. of 160mm travel should be used.
Warranty
On all mountain-bike frames delivered from 1. of September 2007, Liteville now gives 10 years (5+5) warranty on all material and manufacturing defects. A potentially necessary exchange for a new frame or frame component occurs free of charge within the first 5 years warranty period, in the 5 -10th year, a 50% discount on the respective current retail price is offered. For the installed rear shock, the warranty of the respective manufacturer is valid.
The Warranty is valid for all Liteville owners, not only for the first owner, and permits DH and race usage. Like this even most of the second-hand buyers will receive a frame with original factory warranty!
Only condition: All components are to be installed and used as outlined in the owner’s manual.
In addition, Liteville will make a special offer to every Liteville-owner even for misuse or damage due to crash influences (“Bike on roof rack against garage wall”), direct through Liteville.
With Liteville products you are in good hands, even after you have bought the goods.
